Sharon Margaret Okie stepped into the arms of her beloved Savior on July 29, 2021, in Blacksburg, Virginia. She has traded a lifetime of illness for the glorious joy and freedom of heaven.

Sharon was born on July 28, 1956 in Montgomery, Alabama, to Charles and Barbara Johnson. She is survived by Ned, her loving husband of 33 years, their precious daughter Katherine, both of Blacksburg, and her sister Patti Reynolds (Greg) of Longview, Texas. She will also be greatly missed by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

As the manager of New Life Christian Bookstore in the heart of downtown Blacksburg, she welcomed and ministered to her customers. Her great love for children led her to be a founding teacher at Dayspring Christian Academy where she joyfully thrived for almost a decade. She especially loved the enthusiasm and sense of wonder that she shared with her elementary students. She treasured her 25 years in the Dayspring Christian Community.

Sharon loved to be outside, especially in the woods, enjoying the beauty and serenity of God’s creation. She joyfully planned, planted, and tended her flower and vegetable gardens, and spent many happy hours watching the birds at her feeders.

Sharon’s special God-given gift for blessing others helped and encouraged both friends and strangers everywhere she went. Many have been touched by her wisdom, kindness, thoughtfulness, and gentle nature.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Dwelling Place Christian Fellowship in Christiansburg.

In lieu of flowers, to honor her love of children and her eagerness to see God restore broken families, memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Family Playground Fund of Eagle’s Nest Regeneration Ministry (https://www.enrm.org/take-action).
