Oakes, Virginia Mills

Virginia Elizabeth Oakes, 46, of Christiansburg and formerly of Pembroke, departed this life Wednesday morning, October 22, 2014, at Lewis-Gale Montgomery Hospital in Blacksburg after a short illness. Born in Pearisburg on September 2, 1968, she was a daughter of Mollie Parks Saunders and James Mills.

She was employed as a chief operator at RAAP in Radford, was a graduate of Giles High School, had done some college, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Pembroke.

She was preceded in death by her infant sister Denise Mills, her maternal grandparents Annabell and Everett Parks, Sr. and paternal grandfather Aubrey S. Mills.

She leaves to cherish her memory her mother and step-father Mollie Parks Saunders and Edward Lee Saunders of Pembroke; her father and step-mother James A. Sr. and Bonnie Mills of NC; her son Chad Eric Chapman of Pembroke; her daughter Mollie Elizabeth Oakes of Christiansburg; her fiancé Mark Cecil of Radford; her friend and father of her daughter and former husband Pete Oakes of Christiansburg; her paternal grandmother Mary Elizabeth Mills of Blacksburg; her brother James Allen (Jamie) Mills of Christiansburg; her sisters Melissa D. Mills of Hoges Chapel and Tomika J. Saunders of Pembroke; her step-brother Terry Simpson of Richmond, VA; her step-sister April Valdez of NC; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends.

The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church, Chapman Ave., Pembroke Friday evening from 6 until 8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 pm in the First Baptist Church, Pembroke with Pastor, The Rev. James Cooper and The Rev Joe Pack officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
