nye_elisabeth_suttonAlice Elizabeth “Lib” Sutton Nye, 89, of Dublin died Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Highland Ridge Rehab Center. She was born September 21, 1926 in Belspring to the late Lucy Grogg Sutton and Charles E. Sutton.

She was predeceased by her parents, a brother and her husband of fifty-nine years, Charles William “Bill” Nye.

She retired from the Pulaski County School System after more than 26 years teaching in Dublin schools,ranging from third grade to high school. She was a member of the Pulaski County Retired Teachers Association. She was a life-long member of the Dublin Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and Sunday school teacher. She is known to generations for her loving leadership of joint Vacation Bible Schools for the Dublin Presbyterian and New Dublin Presbyterian churches. She was honored by the Town of Dublin with her lifetime friend and fellow church member, Sidney Bently Davie, as co-Grand Marshall of the Dublin Fourth of July parade in 2005. She was an avid bridge player, a Friend of the Pulaski County Libraries. She loved making cheese straws and rhubarb pie.

Survivors include her daughter, Lucy Anne Nichols and her husband Frank Eugene of Dublin; a brother, the Rev. Charles E. Sutton of Richmond and a sister, Mary Clare and her husband Dick Skutt of Blacksburg and a special life-long, sister-friend, Betty Dulaney King, of Newbern, NC. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Travis Pierce, of Picayune, Miss.; Gregory A. Nichols and Shane A. Nichols of Dublin; and Geena N. Short and husband Ben of Pulaski; four great-grandchildren, along with another great-granddaughter due in September, three nieces, three nephews and twelve great neices and nephews.

Visititation will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2016 at Dublin Presbyterian Church followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Olin Whitener officiating. Interment will follow in the Dublin Town Cemetery.

Her family would like to thank the staff of Highland Ridge for their years of kindness and care provided to Elizabeth and also the wonderful services of Medi Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in her memory, will be appreciated to the Dublin Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 2027, Dublin, Va. 24084
