Alvin Robert Nixon, 72, of Dublin, VA, loving husband, father and patriot, completed his life’s journey on Thursday December 20, 2018. Alvin, a Purple Heart recipient, proudly defended our nation and its values with 20 years of service in the U.S. Army, serving three tours of combat duty in Vietnam. He retired from the military in 1984, became a U.S. Government Contracting Consultant with various companies, and in 2005 retired as a Regional Transit Manager for Local Motion in Barnwell, SC. Upon this retirement, he returned to Pulaski County, VA where he enjoyed the beauty and wildlife of this great commonwealth.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Winfred and Sarah Nixon, and younger brothers Donald and Terry Nixon. He is survived by his loving wife Edeltraud (Edie) Nixon, son Christopher Brandon Nixon (Angela), Clemson, SC, Carsten Steiner (Paige) Branchville, SC, grandchildren Christopher Brandon Nixon, Clemson, SC, Carsten Andruw and Nicholas Sage Steiner, Branchville, SC, and sisters Ann Vaughn and Rachel Ernest, Pulaski, VA.

Funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m., Thursday, December 27, 2018, Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, VA. with Bobby Ward and Tom Underwood officiating. The family will begin receiving friends at 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Military Committal Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m.,from the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, VA.
