Nielsen, Robert Arthur

Robert Arthur Nielsen, 83, of Pulaski, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2011 at his home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on September 14, 1928, he was the son of the late Arthur and Anna Dorrington Nielsen. He served in the United States Navy and was a retired employee of AT&T. Surviving are his wife, Katherine F. Nielsen; daughters, Donna Cummiskey and Katherine Smith; sons, William A., John Robert and Richard T. Nielsen; sisters, Evelyn Schroeder, Muriel Geiger and Marilyn Mitchell; brother, Thomas E. Nielsen; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday November 29, 2011 at 10 a.m. from the St. Edward’s Catholic Church with Father Esteban “Steve” Antes officiating. Burial will follow at noon in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, Va. Visiting will be Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be made to the Pulaski Daily Bread in care of First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 824 Pulaski, VA 24301 or the St. Edward’s Catholic Church, Washington Ave. Pulaski, VA 24301.
