Eleanor Mosburg Newby, age 69, of Pearisburg, made her heavenly journey home on Friday, May 29, 2015 from Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. She was born in Pearisburg on May 22, 1946.

Eleanor fought the good fight, and is now present with her Lord and her loved ones that have preceded her which include her beloved husband, Roy Newby, parents, Eugene and Mattie Mosburg, brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Ruby Hypes of Richmond, VA, sister, Hazel Bowles, her two brothers-in-law, William Martin and Minor Bowles, and nephew, Travis Davis all of Pearisburg.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved sons and daughters-in-law, Randall Lee Newby and wife Hilary of Wytheville, VA and Russell Wayne Newby and wife Bridget of Narrows, her special and beloved grandchildren, Ryan Newby, Laney Newby, and Sydney Fields of whom she was so proud. Her sisters, Edna Martin of Dublin, VA and Joyce Longrie and husband Frank of Pearisburg. She also had many special nieces and nephews including Brenda Bowles, Angie and Dean Davis and family, and numerous other nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and church family including a special friend and caretaker, Madeline King, of Pembroke who was like a sister. She also loved her cats which kept her company and were like babies to her.

Eleanor was a faithful member of Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church in Narrows where she attended every service she could until her health wouldn’t permit. She was a very talented lady who could sing and did so on occasion at church, could play the guitar and piano by ear, loved to crochet afghans and baby blankets (which she did for family, friends, and acquaintances) wrote poems and articles and also published a book about her journey with cancer which has inspired many, entitled Don’t Count Me Out Yet.

A special thanks to Dr. McCoy and Dr. Ojomo and their staffs at the Blue Ridge Cancer Centers for taking such care of Eleanor for the last several years. She never met a stranger and was an avid picture taker who loved to share pictures of her grandchildren and family. She was a 1964 graduate of Narrows High School and, later New River Community College. She retired from Celanese with 40 years’ service. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The celebration of her life will be Tuesday, June 2 at Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church on College Avenue in Narrows, VA at 11a.m. with burial following at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Monday evening at the church.. Officiating the service will be Pastors John and Millie Jenkins, Shahn Wilburn, and Eddie Kendall.
