Calvin Coolidge Nester, Sr., age 83 of Stanley town, Virginia and formerly Pulaski County passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Blue Ridge Nursing Center, Stuart, Virginia.

Born May 20, 1925 in Pulaski, he was the son of the late Isaac “Ike” Nester and Rosa Dalton Nester. He was also preceded in death by his first wife and children’s mother, Sarah Ellen Horton Nester; two sons, Gary Douglas Nester and Calvin C. Nester, Jr., one sister, Lucy Lyons; four brothers, Melvin Nester, Abe Nester, Mark Nester and Raymond Nester, and half sister, Bessie Nester.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. and was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a member of the Bassett VFW Post.

Daughter- Rose Ella Nester-Rocky Mount, VA,

Sons-Henry Nelson Nester and wife, Cindy- Fieldale, VA  Roger Allen Nester and wife, Diana-Ford, VA,

Seventeen Great Grandchildren

Brother-Wade Nester and wife, Lou-Martinsville,

Funeral services will be held Tuesday 2:00 P.M in the Bower Funeral Home Chapel, Pulaski with Rev. James Hensley officiating. Interment will follow in the New Dublin Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Dublin with full military honors conducted at the graveside by the Pulaski VFW Post 1184.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M at Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to be sent to the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard,P.O. Box 1002, Collinsville,Va 24078.
