Nester, Martha Wood

Martha Faye Wood Nester, 61 of Pearisburg, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 30th, 2016 at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born on December 20th, 1954, and was the daughter of Phil Wood, Sr., and the late Lucille Blankenship Wood.

A 1973 graduate of Narrows High School where she was Homecoming Queen and Valedictorian, and a 1975 graduate of Bluefield Business College, Martha was a retired employee of Warren and Scheid, PC, where she served for over 40 years as a legal secretary. A faithful member of North Narrows Tabernacle of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, she held many positions, including Sunday School teacher, youth leader, organist, bookkeeper, and in other capacities where called upon. A loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her stepmother, Julia Wood; her husband of 37 years, Kenneth Wyatt Nester; four children, Cheryl Nester Harless of Newport, Carol Nester Fritz and husband Denny of Taylorsville, North Carolina, Travis James Nester of Taylorsville, North Carolina, and Kenneth Thomas Nester and wife Pam of Taylorsville, North Carolina; a special son, William Joseph Harless of Narrows; ten grandchildren, Jacob Ryan Harless, Cassandra Elaine Harless, Brandon Seth Fritz, Jessica Leanna Harless, Kayla Fritz, Jami-Lynn Comer, Kendra Norton, Carrie Hinson, JayCee Hinson, and Kevin Hinson; one great-granddaughter, Ava Harless; a brother, Phil Wood, Jr. and wife Ramona of Narrows; two nephews, Stephen Wood and Christopher Wood; and a niece, Samantha Lucas.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 5th, 2016 at 1 PM at Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church, 809 College Street in Narrows with Rev. Paul Terry officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM.
