William Woodrow Nelson Sr., of Dublin, departed this world on Sunday, May 19, 2013, to be with our Heavenly Father. Woodrow was born on May 8, 1939, to the late John and Sarah Nelson.

He was born and raised in Radford. In 1972, he married the love of his life, Darlene Elizabeth Scott. They enjoyed over 41 years of marriage. He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Nelson; his son, Woodrow William Nelson Jr. and his wife, Jennifer and their four children, Ashley, Seth, Kendall, and Kaleb; a great-grandchild, Aiden; and another son, James Thompson and his wife, Tabitha and their two children, Amber and Sarah.

Woodrow led a very fulfilling life and was always generous and caring to everyone he met. Woodrow had a great sense of humor and was always quick with a joke-especially with his grandchildren. He had a wonderful smile that brightened the world. He was the best husband, father, and Pawpaw that anyone could ask for. He changed all of our lives in a way he will never know. He was always there for us all and in his time of need we were there to comfort him. Our love for Woodrow will never cease. His grandchildren will never forget the love and laughter he gave to them.

“To my father: You will always be my hero and I meet you again with open arms. My heart hurts now, but knowing you will watch over us will help up get through every day until someday we meet again. You will always be remembered and loved. Love you forever, dad. I can only hope to be as great as you.-Your son, Woodrow.”

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 22, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at DeVilbiss Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at DeVilbiss Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. James Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery in Dublin.
