Murphy, Myrtis Cannon

amem_gardening_tools.jpgMyrtis Cannon Murphy, age 89, of Blacksburg, formerly of Springfield, VA. died Friday, January 9, 2015 at Kroontje Health Care Center. She was born in Statesboro, GA. on October 19, 1925 to the late Jesse L. (Pete) and Clyde Akins Cannon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James F. Murphy, and a son, Michael J. Murphy.

She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Springfield, as well as the National Capital Area Garden Club. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Mona M. Murphy, of Blacksburg, Barbara M. and J. William Miller, Jr., Burnsville, N.C., son and daughter-in-law, Gary T. Murphy and Laura Speed, Houston, TX., brother, Richard L. Cannon, Statesboro, GA., and her grandson, Garrett Murphy, Houston, TX.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 2:00 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Father Jarek Nowacki officiating. Burial will follow in the Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Warm Hearth Foundation 2607 Warm Hearth Drive, Blacksburg, VA. or to the Good Samaritan Hospice 1160 Moose Dr. NW Christiansburg, VA.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM Tuesday afternoon at the church.
