Murley, Elizabeth Porterfield Janey

Dr. Elizabeth “Jane” Porterfield Janey Murley, 92 of Blacksburg, VA departed this life at her home, Saturday, October 24, 2020. Born May 27, 1928 in Giles County, VA she was a daughter of the late William and Florence Wren Porterfield.

Jane enjoyed her time spent as a teacher in public education, making differences daily in the lives of children she touched. Later she returned to school, joining the NC State Wolfpack, and receiving a PhD. in economics. She retired from Virginia Tech as a Co-Director for the Center for Volunteer Development.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Arthur Janey; grandson, Nathaniel Reed; brothers William Sheridan “Bud” Lewis, Lewis Lyndon “Fat” Porterfield; and sisters, Nellie Janey, and Lethia Atkins.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Gentry Janey; grandchildren, Candace Anne Janey, and Elizabeth Ann Priester; great grandchildren, John Priester, Dillon Priester, Kristopher Vaught, Ellianna Kurdirka, Justin George, Lillian Wirt, and Cameron Wirt; and many close friends.

There will be a graveside service conducted in the Newport Cemetery on Saturday, October 31, 2020 with Pastor Gary McCoy officiating.
