Sara Ellen Dennis Munsey, 74, of Pearisburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2011, with a smile on her face while surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 17, 1936, in Pearisburg, Va., the daughter of the late Giles Anderson and Sadie Ellen Gusler Dennis. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother. She was proud of her family’s accomplishments and their devotion and sense of responsibility for others. Sara was excellent in homemaking, gardening, crafting and especially in quilting and knitting. She also loved to work crossword puzzles. She began her career of public service working for Chester Stafford, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Samuel Martin, Attorney, Hartley & Chidester, Attorneys, and retired as Chief Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court of Giles County. Early in her career, she worked as a reporter for the Bluefield Daily Telegraph. Her family will always be proud of her many accomplishments, her love for them and her unending willingness to help them in whatever way she could. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ralph M. Munsey; three sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin E. Munsey and wife, Emily Munsey, Timothy A. Munsey and wife, Kimberly B. Munsey and Brett Allen Munsey; one grandson, Kyle A. Munsey, all of Pearisburg; four stepgrandchildren, Cory, Caitlyn, J.W. and Amanda; one brother, Irvin A. Dennis, of Pearisburg; two sisters, Martha D. Spicer, of Maryville, Tennessee and Barbara Dennis-Lucas, of Pearisburg; a special uncle and aunt, Carl and Viola Gusler, of Newport; Cooper, a much loved cat. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 20, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Thessalia United Methodist Church at Sugar Run with the Rev. Charlie Henderson officiating with visitation prior to service from 12 noon until service time at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 19, 2011, after 2 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate.
