Mummau, Kenneth Tyson

Kenneth Tyson Mummau, 64, of Riner, VA went home to be with the Lord on August 6, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. He was a wonderfully devoted and loving husband to his wife of 30 years, Rebecca Mummau, and she was by his side daily during his illness. He was a very positive influence in the life of his children and grandchildren.

These special people were his daughter, Christina Mummau; son Shawn Matthew Taylor, wife Amanda and granddaughter, Adalyn; daughter, Melissa Taylor and her children, grandson Justin Greene and Cheyenne Rickard and great grandchildren, Christopher and Joseph Greene; granddaughter Kayla Greene and fiancé Braedon Sells and great grandchild Fynn Sells; and grandson Logan Greene.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul R. and Minnie Mummau and sister, Velma Mummau Moyer. He has 8 other very special brothers and sisters, their spouses and many nieces and nephews.

Ken was born in Deodate, Pennsylvania on January 21, 1955. Coming from a family of 10 children, he had a lot of interesting stories to tell, but they were very loving and supportive of each other. He graduated from Elizabethtown Area High School in 1973. During those years, he was in FFA and played on the football team.

He was a self-employed contractor and carpenter most of his life and was very talented in that field. In 1999, he became employed by the Town of Christiansburg and used his skills there as a building maintenance technician. He worked there until his first brain surgery in December 2017, when he had to take a leave of absence.

Ken’s greatest joy was being with his family, whether it was a birthday party, a family reunion, beach trips, or doing things with the children and grandchildren around the house. He always made sure their needs were met, whether big or small.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg, VA. Family and viewing time is 12-2pm and his life will celebrated at 2pm. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg, Va. In lieu of flowers you are welcome to donate to the American Cancer Society in his honor.
