Moye, Elizabeth Kitts

On April 11, 1926, James Watkins Kitts and Mary French Kitts welcomed their only baby girl Elizabeth Mae into the family.

Little did they know the impact that Elizabeth Mae Kitts Moye would make on all the lives she would touch during her more than nine decades on earth.

Elizabeth ran life’s race well and finished her course on January 5, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. She was a resident of Heritage Hall in Blacksburg. Elizabeth battled dementia using her strong will and a fixed determination to live.

Born in the Prices Fork area of Montgomery County, Elizabeth’s family moved to Cambria when she was 10. She graduated from Christiansburg High School in 1943 and married Charles Buford Moye who preceded her in death. In their 58 years together, Charles and Elizabeth reared their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. The family attended St. John’s Methodist Church in Cambria and Elizabeth, in her later years, attended Park United Methodist Church in Christiansburg. Elizabeth was a cook, “famous frugal keeper of finances,” Bible teacher, friend, family historian, and caregiver. This dependable and loving soul never met a stranger and was known for her infamous parting remark “I love you dearly.” A non-judgmental lady, Elizabeth loved people. She took the work she did for her Lord seriously including cleaning and decorating her church and providing and preparing communion.

In addition to her husband, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her brothers, William, Samuel, James, Houston, and Jack. Survivors include children and their spouses, Jerry (Lisa) Moye of Blacksburg, Dan K. (Jean) Moye of Pensacola, Florida, Elizabeth June Moye Thomas (Marshall) of Galax, and Dennis J. Moye of Gastonia, North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and only surviving brother, Joe Kitts of Christiansburg, VA.

Many thanks to the staff of Heritage Hall Blacksburg for their love, friendship, hard work and attention to Mom for two years and a special thanks to Mom’s special friend and resident of Heritage Hall, Esther Atkins, who kept a watchful eye. Also to New Century Hospice our deep thanks for the exceptional care they loved our mom with on the last weeks, days, and hours she lived – we love you.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 7, 2017, from 1-2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will begin at 2 p.m. in the Chapel, with Pastor Mike Sanborn officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
