Christine Carter Morton, 83, of Radford, reached out and took hold of our Master’s hand on Sunday, August 10, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James I. “Pete” Morton; two sons, Julian and Al Thomas; one grandchild, Eden Hall; four brothers, James, Earnest, Cliffton and Joseph Carter; and six sisters, Eva Crozier, Leora Alsop, Fannie Carter, Lucille Proctor, Irene Cobbs and Leila Anthony. Surviving to cherish her memory are one daughter, Evang. Lillian (Pastor Jerry Wyms), of Radford, Va.; five sons, Arthur (Connie), of Chesapeake, Va., James (Lynda), of Papillion, Neb., Joseph “Randy,” of Radford, Va., David (Lillie), of Radford, Va., and Prince Edward (Zetta), of Newport News, Va.; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, of Apple Valley, Calif.; 25 grandchildren; 41 greatgrandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild; sister, Ercilla Smith, of Danville, Va.; sisters-in-law, Thelma Carter, of Woodlawn, Va., and Pricilla “Pat” Carter, of Warsaw, Ind.; special cousin, Walter “Brother” Price Jr., of Christiansburg, Va.; special friends, Evang. Carolyn Smith, Cathy East and Karen Mealy; and a host of many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2008, in the First Baptist Church on West Street, Radford, with the Rev. C. Coles Casey officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park, Fairlawn. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening, August 13, 2008, at the First Baptist Church.
