Dr. F.D. Morse, Jr., 78, of Pearisburg, died Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at his home in Tobaccoville, N.C. from metastatic cancer that had spread to the liver and abdominal wall.

He had cared for a full schedule of patients in his Virginia dental practice ten days prior to his death, five days prior to his diagnosis. He was called of God to follow Jesus and thus was always prepared for death, as noted on his tombstone.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy A. Morse of Pearisburg; his daughter, Pam Guy and her husband, John Guy and their son Patrick Morse Guy, of the home; his firstborn son, Fortis Davis Morse and his wife Nancy Zink, MD of Portland, Oregon. He was predeceased by his parents, Ida Davis Morse and Frank D. Morse of Glen Lyn, Va. Dr.

Morse was highly esteemed by family, friends and the patients he treated with a friendly, down-home manner that demonstrated his sincere interest in them as people as well as patients. His daughter often felt that his waiting room was more like a gathering at a General Store, as folks would stop to talk even if they didn’t have appointments. He is already sorely missed.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg, Sunday, August, 27, 2006 at 5 p.m. with Bobby Slyvia and Franklin Zimmerman officiating, with the eulogy being read by John Guy. Burial will follow in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Saturday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
