Morrison, Winslow

Winslow Morrison, 82, of Dublin, Va., died on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, in his home after a short fight with lung cancer. He was born in Dublin, Va., on August 2, 1929, to George and Rosa Rollins Morrison. Winslow attended Christiansburg Institute, where he played football and trumpet in the marching band during the same game. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force, where he received an Honorable Discharge. Later he took a position that lasted for 29 years at Bethlehem Steel in Buffalo, N.Y. Winslow was an avid fisherman, hunter, and sports devotee, but most of all he was a jazz enthusiast. Finally, Winslow returned to his childhood home in Dublin, Va., to live out his days with family. Winslow is survived by his sisters, Kathleen Morrison, of Washington, D.C., and Mattie Holmes, of Dublin, Va.; his sister-in-law, Irene Morrison; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Dublin United Methodist Church, Dublin, Va. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
