Morrison, Irene Holt

Irene Holt Morrison, 90, Dublin VA, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, August 29, 2017 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pulaski, Va., December 21, 1926 to the late Randall Clinton Holt and Elsie Ann Hall Holt.

She attended Christian Hill School, Calfee Training School and graduated from Christiansburg Industrial Institute, Christiansburg, VA., graduate of Morristown College, Morristown, TN and Virginia Union University, Richmond, VA.

Irene retired from the Pulaski County Public School System after teaching forty-one and a half years. She began her career at Rich Hill School, Allisonia, VA where her children lovingly misnamed her as “Miss Hope” instead of Miss Holt. She also taught at Calfee Training School and Claremont Elementary School as a Teacher-Librarian.

Preceded in death by, husband of nearly 42 years, George Emmett Morrison, Jr.; parents, Randall C. Holt and Elsie A. Hall Holt; brothers, Randolph Holt (in infancy) and Cecil E. Holt; sister, Mary D. Holt Davis; sisters in-law Charlotte J. Morrison Williams, Helen T. Morrison Hampton, Kathleen C. Morrison, Clara E. Morrison Booth; brothers in-law, Winslow Morrison, Nathan J. Sokolow and Alonzo Davis and nephew, Randall Holt.

Left to cherish her memory are children, Kathleen G. Morrison and George E. Morrison, III; sister, Gladys Holt Sokolow; sister in-law, Mattie P. Morrison Holmes and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends, 1:30p.m.- 3:00 p.m.; Celebration of Life Service, 3:00p.m., at Dublin United Methodist Church, 424 E. Main Street, Dublin, VA.

Interment will follow the service at Highland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Irene Holt Morrison Scholarship Fund, c/o Dublin United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 577, Dublin, VA 24084-0577.
