Moran, Shirley Raye

Shirley Raye Moran, 71, of Blacksburg, Va., departed this life Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at the Veterans Hospital in Salem, Va. He was born January 6, 1939, in Floyd, Va. He had been a resident at the Virginia Veterans Care Center since August 2005.

He had attended Crossroads Holiness Church. He was a long distance driver for much of his life; he also worked for Dr. Pepper Bottling Company for 18 years. He was in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Linkous Moran; and his parents, Melvin and Essie Moran. He is survived by four sisters, Vera and Donald Shively, of Rocky Mount, Va., Mary and Bernice Underwood, of Floyd, Va., Bonnie Skelton, of Blacksburg, Va.; and her fiancé, Toney Quesenberry, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Betty Moran, of Floyd, Va.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marlin and Pat Linkous, Bernard and Jean Linkous and Shirley Brunty. He is also survived by several nephews, nieces, cousins and aunts.

Friends may call anytime after 9 a.m. Sunday, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011, at the Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011, following the visitation in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Early, the Rev. Randy Woolwine and the Rev. Jube Burk officiating. Interment will be in the Linkous Family Cemetery in Blacksburg, Va.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Virginia Veterans Care Center and the Veterans Hospital for the love, support and care you have given Shirley and the family.
