Moore, Hester “Hedy”

Hester “Hedy” Moore passed away on March 14, 2015, in Mesa, Arizona. Hedy was born on November 20, 1926 in Barnstable, Massachusetts. The youngest of five children, she grew up in Barnstable, Massachusetts and eventually settled in Blacksburg, Virginia where she lived for over 30 years.

She was married to W.E.C. Moore for over 35 years and together they raised three boys. Hedy was active in the Blacksburg Baptist Church choir, and volunteered for numerous charities including: Jr. Women’s Club, and the American Cancer Drive.
Later in life, Hedy moved to South Dartmouth, Massachusetts. She worked at Massachusetts Maritime Academy for ten years.

Through her work with the Academy, she traveled around the world on six sea terms on the Training Ship Patriot State, visiting ports in; Italy, Spain, Curacao, Portugal, Ireland, England, the Azores, Mexico, Netherlands, Bahamas, Scotland, Puerto Rico, Barbados and in the U.S. Hedy also sang with the local Saints and Singers choral group, and performed at Carnegie Hall in N.Y. She lived in Arizona for the last 15 years of her life.

Hedy loved people. Her always present smile made her friends wherever she went. She was a great mom, devoted daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and a loving friend to all. Hedy’s warmth and compassion touched many lives.

She is survived by her son David Moore and his wife Vicki, son Howard Moore and his wife Karen, son Jey Moore and his wife Wendy. She is also survived by five grandchildren; Kyle Moore, Kristen Moore, Scott Moore, David Moore, and Kathryn Moore.
Hedy’s family is grateful to the many caregivers who helped care for her later in life.

Services in Arizona will be on Saturday April 4, 2015 at 11:00 am, at Gold Canyon United Methodist Church in Gold Canyon, Arizona.

A service in Massachusetts on Cape Cod will be planned for the fall.
