Montgomery, Mary Mildred Mundy

Mary Mildred Mundy Montgomery of 801 Wolf Street in Narrows went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 13th, 2008 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital at the age of 85.

She was born in Buchanan, Botetourt County, Virginia on February 25th, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Roy C. and Viola Carter Mundy. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Samuel Fleming Montgomery; a son, Harry Edward Montgomery; a sister, Betty Jane Sexton; and two brothers, R.C. Mundy and Harry B. Mundy.

Mildred was a retired employee of Celanese Corporation after 23 years of service at the Narrows plant. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Narrows.

She is survived by four sons, David F. Montgomery of Coleman, Florida, Samuel Steven Montgomery and wife Jean of Rich Creek, Earl Leo Montgomery and wife Betty of Narrows, and Roy Lee Montgomery and wife Gloria of Pearisburg; eleven grandchildren, Melinda Montgomery, Tanya M. Kish, Teri M. Chrisley, Monica Montgomery, Kristy Blackcloud, Jackie M. Jones, David P. Montgomery, Bryan Montgomery; Jason Montgomery, Mark Montgomery, Todd Montgomery; 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; a loving sister, Ruby Mundy Matthews of Florida; a brother, Marvin Mundy of Surry County, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Narrows with Rev. Dr. Darrell Hunley officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows Tuesday from 6 to 9 PM.
