montgomery excil eugeneExcil Eugene “Speedy” Montgomery, 72, of Radford, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at his home in Radford. He was born in Pulaski County April 1, 1939 to the late Vernie Excil Montgomery and Helen Ferrell Montgomery McCoy. He was retired from Volvo Truck Plant after 36 years of service and served in the U. S. Army. He was a member of Dublin Presbyterian Church. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and nephew. After being faced with a difficult diagnosis of lung cancer, he lived each day with courage, faith and hope. Throughout his journey, he was blessed by the love and support of his family, his friends and his church family. Perfectionist, amazing, strong, courageous, determined, loving, spunky, intelligent, and wise; no amount of words can describe who he was and how he influenced the lives of family friends and strangers. He always put his family first, even above himself and he loved being outside working in the garden and growing veggies for family and friends. He dearly loved and cherished his grandchildren, Megan and Andi Montgomery, Andy Kennedy and Jason Neil; great-grandchildren Kelsey, Hailey, McKenzie and Nolan, who was the light of his life. He will always be with us forever and we will see him again in Heaven. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Eunice Sifford Montgomery of Radford; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Tammy Montgomery of Dublin and Mark and April Montgomery of Radford; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenny and Debbie Montgomery of Stow, OH and Larry and Carol Montgomery of Akron, OH; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Sheppard of Talmadge, OH, Rachel Johnson of Peninsula, OH, Patsy and John Fennell, Akron, OH and Charlotte Riley of OH; uncle Bill and Joyce Ferrell; aunt Ivory Andrews; step-father, Pat McCoy; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 16, 2012 at 11 am at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Jeannette Tagg officiating. Pallbearers will be Garnett, Dennis and Randy Reed, Danny McClure, Don Thornton and Walter Tolley, Interment will follow in the Hickman Cemetery in Pulaski County where members of VFW Post #776 will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 8 pm Thursday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Dublin Presbyterian Church, PO Box 2027, Dublin, VA 24084. The Montgomery family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford, Virginia.
