Rev. Wayne Thomas Monroe, of Bland, VA, passed on to celebrate a new birthday in Heaven on Sunday, December 23, 2018, his 76th birthday. He was born December 23, 1942 in Alexandria, VA, the son of the late John Wallace & Lucy Lamb Monroe.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He enjoyed photography. He was happiest when he was in the pulpit. Studying at Wesley Theological Seminary and Duke Divinity School, his ministry began as a Sunday School teacher and continued on as a Methodist Minister for over thirty years. He ministered to many in all realms of life form the pulpit, out on the street and even in the dialysis center in his last days.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Perry and Roger Monroe.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 62 years, Dollie Pearl French Monroe; his loving daughters & sons-in-law, Dawn & Mike Davis, Dena Monroe and Debra & Warnie Day; his special grandchildren, which he loved dearly, Brandon, Jackson and Jeneva; his sister & brother-in-law,, Sherry & Don Koonce; his nephew, Brent Monroe; a special brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Robert & MaryAnn French and their family; a real blessing of numerous neighbors, parishioners and friends, too many to list.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 30, 2018 at 4:00 P.M. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, with Rev. Dale Riddle officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 P.M. until service time, 4:00 P.M. Per his wishes, he has been cremated and will be laid to rest at the Southwest Virginia Veteran’s Cemetery, Dublin, at a later date.
