Roy Edward Mitchell Sr., 73, of Christiansburg, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 7, 2012, at his home. He was born in Buchanan County on August 5, 1938 to the late Noah Ellis and Stella Mae Jewell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Davis Mitchell and sister, Christina Mitchell. He had been a truck driver for the Town of Christiansburg for over 20 years. He is survived by his children, Tina Beckner and husband, Todd, of Hiwassee, Wayne Mitchell and wife, Jennifer, of Christiansburg, and Edward Mitchell Jr., of Christiansburg; grandson, James-Robert Eugene Mitchell; siblings, Dorothy and Charles Matthews, of Piney Flats, Tenn., Judy and Chuck Sexton, of Abilene, Texas, Curtis Mitchell, of Newton, N.C., Hobert Mitchell, of Jewell Ridge, John Mitchell, of Morganton, N.C., Bud and Sue Mitchell, of Christiansburg, James and Lydia Mitchell, of Smithfield and Junior and Doris Mitchell, of Ben Hur; his ex-wife, Beatrice Thompson; his stepdaughter, Joyce Rakes; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 11, 2012 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home, with Pastor Buck Yopp officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
