Hoover Martin Mitchell, 84 of Pulaski, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Roanoke Carilion Hospital. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Blake and Etta Mitchell; sisters, Ibra Huff and Guida Huff; brother-in-law, Gleve Huff; and special cousin, Sylvia Jones.

He is survived by his brother, Curry T. Mitchell; brother-in-law, Erbie Huff; and many nieces and nephews.

Hoover was an active member of the Pulaski Methodist Church where he served many years as an usher and greeter, and worked to support the church and community activities. He was an avid Virginia Tech football fan, and he attended all home games, as well as traveling to away games with many Hokie Club friends.

In addition to his immediate family, these long time friends were a significant part of his life, John Toothacher, a church friend, John Rupe, Hokie Club associate, and extended family members, Joretta and Elray Hanks, and Jimmy and Brenda Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 11, 2013, from the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski with the Rev. Hugh Kilgore officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Hill Cemetery, in Carroll County. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour.
