Minton, Daisy Mae Sumpter

Daisy Mae Sumpter Minton, 92, of Vinton, died Saturday, January 5, 2008. She was born May 22, 1915, in Floyd County, a daughter of the late Frank C. Sumpter and Nora Della Akers Sumpter.

Also preceding her in death were her husband, Clarence Lee Minton, sons, Daniel Ross Minton and Clarence Lee Minton Jr., sister, Bonnie Sumpter Vaught, brothers, Delmas D. Sumpter and Sam E. Sumpter, brothers-in-law, Frank Minton and Ross Minton, and sisters-in-law, Madeline Sumpter and Betty Sumpter. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Order of Eastern Star, Electa Chapter No. 38, and the Ladies Auxiliary to the V.F.W.

Surviving are brothers, Wise Sumpter, of Staffordsville and Frank Sumpter, of Moore, Okla.; sisters, Virginia Sumpter Hutchins, of Simi Valley, Calif., and Laura Sumpter Barnhart and husband, Edsel W. “Barney” Barnhart, of Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Gladys Sumpter, of Montvale, Betty Minton and Mary Minton, of Roanoke; daughters-in-law, Alice Minton Wright of Florida, and Lorraine Minton of Richmond; granddaughters, Crystal Minton Rich and Caprice Wright MacKemer of Fla., and Michelle Minton of Richmond; five great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, P. O. Box 257, Roanoke, VA 24002 or the Alzheimer’s Association. The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Roanoke Chapel of Lotz Funeral Home.
