milirons_raymond_rRaymond R. Millirons, 87, of Riner, Va., passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 23, 2010 surrounded by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mabel Combs Millirons; brothers, Glen and Franklin “Hicks” Millirons; and sister, Opal Millirons Young. Raymond was born in the Pulaski County community of Little Creek where he was raised on a farm. He moved as a young man to Riner, where he farmed, worked at the Radford Arsenal, raised a family and lived the rest of his life. Raymond was very well known in the community and beyond and never met a stranger! He loved gardening (especially tomatoes), animals and anything to do with the outdoors. He also built a very special cabin on the Little River that remains a place of many fond memories for family and friends. He also enjoyed bluegrass music, and especially loved fishing whether it was in the Florida Keys, Nova Scotia or anywhere in between. Raymond also loved church. He was a life-long member of Sidney United Methodist Church where he was a youth leader and a Lay speaker. He considered the members of the Church his second family. Most of all Raymond loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maedell Coffey Millirons; daughter, Beth Willoughby and husband, Rick, of Floyd; son, Steven Millirons and his wife, Anna, of Salem; and a very special granddaughter, Rachel Grayson Millirons. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Lydia Millirons; several nieces and nephews; his church family and numerous other friends. He will also be missed by his constant canine companion, Angel. The family will receive friends at The Horne Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, from 5 to 8 p.m. A celebration of Raymond’s life will be held in The Horne Funeral Home Chapel 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2010.
