John Kester Millirons, 95, of Narrows, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 30, 2011, at Riverview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Rich Creek. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on August 15, 1915, and was the son of the late John Harvey and Schrilda Etta Shrader Millirons. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Gene Millirons; a grandson, Trevin Lane Millirons; five sisters, Lelia Millirons Carr, Helen Millirons Hollins, Elgie Gray Millirons, Schrilda Ilee Millirons, and Keezie Millirons; three brothers, Shular Muncy Millirons, Epson Joseph Jackson Millirons, and Alvin Carr Millirons; and two infant siblings. A United States Army World War II veteran, Kester was a school bus driver for many years, and spent most of his life farming. He faithfully attended Hales Chapel United Methodist Church. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 72 years, Neva Clark Millirons; a daughter, Wilna Lindsey and husband, Bill, of Narrows; two sons, John Edgar Millirons and wife, Jean, of Rocky Mount, Va., and William Wendell Millirons and wife, Nancy, of Narrows; six grandchildren, Morgan Millirons and wife, Janet, of Pembroke, Holly Ferguson and husband, Stan, of Narrows, Todd Lindsey and wife, Jennifer, of Roanoke, Heather Dawn Lindsey, of Dublin, and Germaine Mommerency and Justin Millirons, both of Rocky Mount; great-grandchildren, Anna Morgan Millirons and Eli Millirons, both of Pembroke, Huntar and Slater Ferguson, Erica Lindsey Gautier, Sydney Lindsey and Spencer Lindsey, all of Narrows, and Matt and Josh Lindsey, both of Long, S.C., and Katie and Melanie Torres, of Roanoke; a stepgrandchild, Landon Torres, of Roanoke; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many special friends. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Hales Chapel United Methodist Church on Wolf Creek Road near Narrows with the Rev. Leon O’Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in the Millirons Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. The family requests that those sending memorial contributions, please consider Hales Chapel United Methodist Church.
