Thelma Elizabeth Martin, 93, passed away on March 13, 2008, at Kroontje Health Care Center in Blacksburg, Virginia. She was born in Richmond, Virginia, on December 6, 1914, to the late Irvin Powell and Virginia Goode Martin.

Thelma was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Charles Robert Miller and her sister and brother-in-law, Helen Mae and William Gray Miller.

Thelma graduated from William and Mary College, Williamsburg, Virginia, in 1936 with a B.A. in English/French. She was an avid bridge player and loved gardening. Thelma was a member of Northside Presbyterian Church in Blacksburg.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Wes Kreis, of Blacksburg; a niece, Marti Elliot, of Duluth, Georgia, and her two children, Ashley and Gray Elliott; and two very special and dear friends, Emily Bender and Frank Rarick.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Lucian Robinson for his invaluable counsel and for always being available whenever he was needed; the caring staffs of Kroontje Health Care Center (in the Arbor and Cove) and Carilion Hospice, especially Venus Bingham, Chaplain Thomas Rice, and Pam Forsyth.

There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at Westhampton Memorial Park in Richmond, Virginia, on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Warm Hearth Foundation, c/o Karen Nelson for Kroontje’s Employee Appreciation Fund, 2607 Warm Hearth Drive, Blacksburg, Va., 24060, Carilion Hospice, 707 Randolph Street, Suite 251, Radford, Va., 24141, or Northside Presbyterian Church, 1017 Progress Street, Blacksburg, Va., 24060. Funeral arrangements are being handled by McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
