miller_james_david_jrJames David Miller, Jr., 95, of Newport, departed this life Friday afternoon, February 19, 2010, at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg. Born in Newport on February 15, 1915, he was a son of the late James David Miller, Sr. and Sallie Rangeley King Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Elizabeth Inez Metz Miller, his son, James David Miller, III, his sister, Anne Miller Williams, and his daughter-in-law, Carolyn Hannah Miller. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter and son-in-law, Elsie King Miller Lawrence and Thomas B. Lawrence, Jr. ; his grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Miller Taylor, Laura Ann Miller Hubinger, Thomas B. Lawrence III; his great-grandchildren, Amber E. Miller, James V. Taylor, Andrew M. Taylor, Benjamin E. Hubinger, Nathan J. Hubinger all of Richmond; his niece, Diane Williams of Riner; and the special family of his wife who also became his family. David was a native of Newport and lived in Newport until his 95th Birthday. He was a lifetime member of Newport-Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and worked at Celanese Corp. in Narrows for 40 years. He was soft-spoken, strongly family oriented, loved children, and being with people and sharing his stories of life in Giles County. David had a wonderful group of neighbors and community friends who enriched his life by sharing their time with him in conversation or transportation. His family is greatly appreciative. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the Newport-Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with Pastor Morris Fleisher officiating. Burial will follow in Newport Cemetery at Newport. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, Sunday evening from 4 until 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to Newport-Mt.
