Miller, Bertha Spradlin

Bertha Spradlin Miller, 97, of Christiansburg passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 17, 2015. Mrs. Miller was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County. She was a long time member of Alleghany Church of Christ, serving as pianist and organist for many years.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt and sister dedicating her life to the care of her family and her church. She loved to sew, garden, can fruits and vegetables, cook and read.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, David R. Miller; parents, William and Bertha Spradlin; brothers and sisters, Clarence Spradlin, Ernest Spradlin, Thelma Fenton, Ethel Price, Lucille Fisher, James Spradlin, and Howard Spradlin. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, David Thomas and Geraldine; daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Michael Ballard; grandchildren, Tammy Griffin, Debbie Haubner and husband Mike Haubner, Jon Stewart and wife Tracy Stewart, Melanie Evans and husband Mike Evans, Lori Furrow and husband Joe Furrow; sister, Mildred Young, sister-in-law, Conston Spradlin; great and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express appreciation and thanks for all the caregivers at Wheatland Hills and Carilion Hospice.

The family will receive friends at the Horne Funeral Home on Saturday, December 19, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service officiated by Porter Riner at 1:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be given to Blue Ridge Christian Camp, Post Office Box 428, McCoy, VA, 24111.
