Miles, Claude Jackson, Sr.

Claude Jackson Miles, Sr., age 97, of Christiansburg, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2006. Claude was son of the late Joseph Jackson and Virginia Alice Wirt Miles.

Also preceding him in death his wife of 64 years, Martha Etta Britt Miles; brothers, Henry, Clarence, and Shorty Miles; sisters, Ethel Iddings, Roxie Kingrea, Ora Johnson, Elsie Hall, Ruby Miles, Virginia Bishop, Ruth Wilkerson and Geneva Miles.

He was a veteran having served in the US Army.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Claude, Jr. and Janice Miles of Riner; Gilbert and Judy Miles of Radford; J. D. and Donna Miles of Roanoke; Don and Robin Miles of Christiansburg; Bill Miles of St. Augustine, Fla.; daughters and sons-in-law, Claudette and Jim Burnette; Ruby and Harold Spencer; Henrietta and Charles Keister all of Christiansburg; Reba and Bob Smart of Check; one sister, Cornelia Ann Wiley; 20 grandchildren, 24 greatgrandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 27 at the Horne Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Claudette Burnette. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ellis Meredith and the Rev. Dwight Haynes officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post #7854.
