Merrix, Melvin Emmitt

Melvin Emmitt Merrix, 77, of Pembroke, departed this life Saturday evening, November 16, 2019 at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Christiansburg. Born in Giles County on April 16, 1942, he was a son of the late Emmitt and Cherokee Mona Williams Merrix.

He was retired from Virginia Tech, and was a graduate of Pembroke High School (The Corncutters). His parents and an infant daughter, Pam, preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of twenty-seven years, Melinda Snider Merrix; his sons Gene Merrix (Sherry) of Narrows, Timmy Merrix (Dee) of Blacksburg, Patrick Merrix (Liz) of Pembroke, Michael Merrix (Kaitlin) of Pearisburg; His daughters Melissa Basham (Billy) of Christiansburg, Amy Wheeler (Phil) of Pearisburg, Casey Thomas of Pembroke; his sister and brother-in-law Judy M and Arnold Radford of Pembroke; his half-brother Pete Hilton and wife Julie of Pembroke; and his fifteen grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, with Pastor Gary Poff officiating. Burial will follow in the Fillinger Cemetery at Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the funeral Home one hour before the services.
