Meredith, Douglas Raymond

Douglas Raymond Meredith, 81, of Radford, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015. Douglas was born July 14, 1933 in Pulaski County the son of the late Fred R. and Deliah Altizer Meredith.

He was a U. S. Army veteran and he worked for the United States Postal Service in various capacities for over 35 years. After retiring in 1992, he and his wife relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC, where he worked for Booe Realty until his 2nd retirement in 2012 when they returned to their home in Radford. He earned his AAS degree in Electronic Technology graduating Summa Cum Laude from New River Community College in 1974.

He was preceded in death by brother, William Meredith and grandson, Matthew Moran.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Merlyn H. Meredith; daughters and son-in-law, Bonnie Meredith of Radford, and Sarah and Daniel Young of Blacksburg; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas, Jr. and Sherry Meredith of Salem, and David and Shannon Meredith of Matthews, NC; grandchildren, Zachary Stevens, Meredith Doss and her husband Brandon, Jake Young, and Spencer, Jacob, William, Meg, Cameron, Alex and Laikin Meredith; great grandchildren, Cole, Lily, and Cora Stevens and Aidan Doss; and his constant 4-legged companion, Susie.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm Sunday, January 11, 2015 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Interment will be private at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin at a later date.
