Melkus, Betty Close

Betty Close Melkus, 89, of Christiansburg, VA passed away at her home surrounded by loved ones on November 24, 2016. Betty was born January 23, 1927 in Thomas, WV.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luke and Marion Close; sisters, Norma Griffith (Jim), and Jeannie Fisher (Jack); and nephew, Mark Griffith. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ted Melkus; son, Chris Melkus (Connie) of Ashburn, VA; daughter, Amy McGuire (Daniel) of Pilot, VA; grandchildren, Maggie Melkus, Carly Melkus, Madeline McGuire, Lukas McGuire, Anna McGuire; multiple nieces and nephews.

Betty was loved by so many as she never met a stranger. She leaves behind many wonderful friends and her extended Topsail Beach family.

Funeral services will be conducted, Monday, November 28, 2016 at 11:00 am in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Neal Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 39105.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6-8:00 pm in the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
