Bennett Richard Medley, age 78 of Dublin died Thursday morning March 17, 2011 at his residence. He was born September 13, 1932 in Newport, Va., and was the son of the late Fronie Williams Medley and John Abraham Medley.

He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War, and was a member of a Machinist Union. He was a Methodist by faith, having attended from time to time the Newbern United Methodist Church, and was a retired machinist at Federal Mogul in Blacksburg, and later worked for Sunshine Tours as a bus driver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Davis Medley, a daughter, Diana Parker, a brother, Kenneth Hoover Medley, sisters, Lucy Lang, Pauline Peery, Mary McDaniel, Mamie Proffitt and two infant sisters. He is survived by two daughters; Sandra Louise Sutphin of Claytor Lake, and Teresa Stella Shelburne of Pulaski: two sons; Richard Garland Medley of Craigsville, Va., William “Bill” Edward Medley of Pulaski. Also survived by 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Joe Sartin of Cambria, and all of his friends from his Dublin neighborhood.

Funeral services will be held Monday March 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Seagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Kathy Newton officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park in Radford where the V.F.W. Post 1184 will conduct military honors. The family will receive friends Sunday evening at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m.
