Meadows, Orville Ernest

Rev Orville Ernest Meadows, 91, of Peck St, Pembroke, departed this life Thursday evening, April 21, 2016 while in route to a revival meeting at his church. Born on February 25, 1925 at Talcott, WV, he was a son of the late Nathaniel Herbert and Mary Elizabeth Cox Meadows.

He was retired from VPI in the grounds and buildings department; had earlier been employed as a Farm Manager, but the fulfillment of his life purpose came in the Christian ministry having been the pastor of Spruce Run Chapel in Forest Hill, WV for the last 11 years and has been preaching the Gospel for nearly fifty years and teaching Sunday School for even longer. He was a dedicated gardener, and had the reputation of being the community handy-man. Rev Meadows was preceded in death by his dear wife and partner in his ministry for 62 yrs, the late Mamie Carter Meadows and his ten brothers and sisters.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted daughter and son-in-law Joyce and Mason “Junior” Snider of Pembroke; his sisters Mary Elizabeth Jones of Forest Hill, WV and Goldie Leaddingham of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews and his special cat Skippy.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 pm. Saturday evening.
