Ramsey Ann English McNeil, 75, of Old Pagelyn Road, Radford, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Wilson English and Eva Woody English; and a brother, David Wilson English. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Carl McNeil; son, Carl Jr. (Nick) and wife Selena; two grandchildren, Cody and Olivia, all of Radford; sisters-in-law, Karen G. English, of Lynchburg, Aliene Sowers, of Floyd, Pauline Pitsinger, of Salem, Clover Ratcliffe, of Pilot, Ocie McNeil, of Christiansburg, Gloria Dawn McNeil, of Pilot, and Lois Sedlacek (Ron), of Pilot; brothers-in-law, Alvin McNeil (Betty Lynn), of Pilot and William Morgan, of Roanoke; as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews and extended family. Ramsey was born in Franklin County in 1937 and grew up with her brother David on the family farm. She graduated Franklin County High School and Radford University, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Guidance. During her career, she taught in Franklin County, Danville, Roanoke, and Montgomery County schools. After she became a stay-at-home mom, she was part of the Virginia Chapter of United Daughters of Confederacy, where she held the office of president for a term, as well as served on the Board for the Montgomery Museum. She was a member of the Christiansburg Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Ramsey also taught Sunday school for years and led a women’s Bible study group. She was a faithful member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. Ramsey was quite the accomplished cook and thoroughly enjoyed cooking for loved ones. Most importantly, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 13, 2013, from 4-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 14th, at 11 a.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 2004 Preston St., Radford, with Pastor Jerry Gibson, Rev. Mike Vest, and Mr. Richard Oliver officiating. Interment will follow in Old Pagelyn Cemetery, Radford.
