McMillan Sr., Bernard Allen

Bernard Allen McMillan Sr. of Christiansburg passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 7, 2016, at his home. Bernard was born on February 12, 1938, in Fries, Va., and was raised in Woodlawn. He graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1957, and in 2000, after 43 years of service, he retired from Kroger.

Bernard is preceded in death by his parents, George Amos and Mabel Hawkins McMillan; and a brother, Herman Wilmer McMillan.

Bernard leaves behind his true love of 58 years, Marlene Richardson McMillan; his son, Allen McMillan and wife, Felicia, of Dublin; daughter, Sarah McMillan of Roanoke; his grandchildren, Mallory McMillan Marshall and husband, Anthony, of Floyd, and Patrick Allen McMillan of Fairlawn; one great-grandchild, Wyatt Marshall; his brothers, Alden McMillan and wife, Polly, of Christiansburg, Gilmer McMillan and wife, Sue, of Vinton, George McMillan and wife, Lucille, of Salem; his sisters, Rebecca Martin of Stephens City, and Frances Cox of Wytheville; his in-laws, Stuart Richardson of Burlington, N.C., Roland Richardson and wife, Earlene, of Woodlawn, Danny Richardson and wife, Sue, of Woodlawn; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and Bernard’s beloved pet, Lucy.

The family would like extend a special thank you to Advanced Health Services, Home Instead, and Good Samaritan Hospice Care for taking care of Bernard during his illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fairlawn Presbyterian Church, 6900 Pulaski Avenue, Fairlawn, VA 24141. The family will receive friends and family 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2016, at Fairlawn Presbyterian Church. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday June 11, 2016, at the same location with Pastor Allison Unroe officiating.

Entombment will follow directly after the services at Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Dublin.
