Thelma M. McLaughlin, 88, of Rich Creek, Va., passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at Riverview Nursing Home.

Born February 27, 1918 at Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Camden and Ada Lee Matheny McNeill. Mrs. McLaughlin and her husband owned and operated the McLaughlin Drug Store in Rich Creek, Va.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Rich Creek, Va., where she taught Sunday School for 20 years, was on the pastor selection committee and served as deaconess for the church. She was active in the democratic party at both county and state levels. Mrs. McLaughlin was a World War II US Navy Veteran.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John McLaughlin and daughter-in-law, Theresa Sykes McLaughlin. Survivors include one son, Camden McLaughlin of Blacksburg, Va.; two grandchildren, Emily Allison McLaughlin and Ryan Johnston McLaughlin; one brother, James McNeill of Mannington, W.Va.; and one nephew, Roger Hickman of Princeton, W.Va.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2006 at the First Baptist Church, Rich Creek, Va., with the Rev. Larry Lusk officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Burial and graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Rosewood Cemetery, Lewisburg, W.Va.
