Joan Electa Hoyt McKinney born June 15, 1931 in Worcester, Massachusetts, spent her childhood in Essex Junction, Vermont, and a long time resident of Dublin, Virginia and more recently Amelia, Va., went to join her Savior on May 17, 2009.

Preceded by her father, John Frederick Hoyt, her mother Marion Elizabeth Stone, her brother James F. Hoyt, and her younger son, John David McKinney.

Surviving are her children Gloria J. McKinney, living in Powhatan, James F. McKinney, Jr., married to Carol McKinney, living in Beaver Dam, Deloris “Dee” Smith, living in Amelia, Roger D. McKinney, married to Connie McKinney, living in Chesterfield, Michael A. McKinney, living in Chesterfield, twelve grandchildren, five step grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

She was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean era and retired from Inland Motors, Radford. She attended Jetersville Baptist Church in Amelia.

Visiting at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court Street, Amelia, VA on Thursday from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. and where services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. Committal service will be Saturday, May 23, at 1:30 p.m. at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, VA. with military honors.
