McKenney, Dell Jackson

Dell Jackson McKenney, 97, a former resident of Austinville, Va., died November 13, 2010. Dell resided the past 16 years at the Showalter Center at Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll F. McKenney, in 1971; and grandson, Erich Lassen, in 1989. She is survived by one sister, Shirley J. Manning, Wytheville; four children and their spouses, Katherine and Fred Lassen, Christiansburg, Carroll J. and Nan McKenney, Richmond, Sarah and Gordon Mapp, Charlotte, N.C., and John and Amanda McKenney, Midlothian; seven grandchildren, Mary Lassen Bieniak, Kim Mapp Six, Laura Mapp, Philip McKenney, Ian Mapp, Erica McKenney and Jonathan McKenney; and two great-grandchildren, Brett Bieniak and Benjaman Six. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the Jackson Family Cemetery in Austinville. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory be made to Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 Progress St. NE, Blacksburg, Va. 24060-7320.
