McGuire, Rebecca Ellen (Granny)

Rebecca Ellen (Granny) McGuire, 89, of Pembroke, passed away peacefully at her home in the loving care of her family Friday afternoon, April 20, 2012. Born in Bud, W.Va. on August 22, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Mary Jane Cox. “Granny”, as she was called by all who knew her, had a green thumb and a love for her flowers. In earlier days she loved spending time with her family fishing. She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. McGuire, a son-in-law, Herb Watkins and a daughter-in-law, Mary B. McGuire, two grandsons, Bubby McGuire and Albert McGuire Jr., and a great-granddaughter, Odessa Rae Altizer. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Mary P. Watkins, of the home; her sons, James and Donna McGuire and Sherwood and Rose McGuire, of Pearisburg, and Albert and Barbara McGuire, of Peterstown, W.Va.; a special son, Jack Thomas, of Pembroke; a special grandson, Robert and Brenda McGuire, of Wytheville; also her ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel, 605 Snidow Street, Pembroke, with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
