McGuire, Mary Argabright Pannell

Mary Magdalene Argabright Pannell McGuire, 83, of Christiansburg, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 27, 2014, with her family by her side. She was born on May 29, 1930, in the Alleghany Springs area of Montgomery County.

Magdalene was preceded in death by her parents, Ira Lemue Argabright and Beulah McNeil Argabright. In addition to her parents, Mag was preceded in death by her first husband, William Robert (Bob) Pannell of Shawsville, with whom she raised her children. Mag was also preceded in death by her second husband, David B. McGuire of Radford (who called her Mary) and through that marriage she gained another family; brothers, Charlie Argabright of Check, Leroy Argabright and Weldon Argabright, both of Shawsville; sisters, Louise Conner and Irene Argabright, both of Shawsville.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Cromer (Don); her sons, Randy Pannell (Cindy), and Wayne Pannell (Missy); daughter-in-law, Kathy Pannell, all of Shawsville; grandchildren, Teresa Cromer (Tim) of Christiansburg, Christy Cromer (Jeremy) of Shawsville, and Robbie Pannell of Seattle, WA; her special babies, her great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Oliver and Brianna Killgore; step-son, Buddy McGuire of Christiansburg; step-daughters, Geraldine Harris and Bonnie Sumner, both of Dublin, and Patty Brooks of Michigan; several step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn (Sis) Bond and Roberta Hurst (Sam); brother, Wilton Argabright (Dee), all of Shawsville; brother-in-law, Ray Richardson (Charlotte) of Roanoke; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she dearly loved.

Mag loved the Lord, her family and serving others. She attended Shawsville Congregational Holiness Church for most of her life. She worked for over 25 years at Wheatland Hills Retirement Center in Radford, where she lovingly cared for her residents. She was also a wonderful cook and never let anyone leave her table hungry. Mag loved working outdoors and took pride in her home and her yard. She loved to travel, especially to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and to Dollywood to hear Gospel music. She loved going to Myrtle Beach and Daytona Beach where we have many wonderful memories to treasure of our time there.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank a special friend of many years, Barbara Holstein, for her care and support. We would also like to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice, especially Heather, Kim, and Katie for the care and respect shown to Mag and to our family at this time. Also, many thanks to Cindy for her devotion in caring for Mag in her final days. It was Mag’s desire to be at the “home place” with her family near and we are so grateful that this was made possible.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at 12 noon at the Shawsville Congregational Holiness Church, with Pastor Wes Conner and Pastor Richard Kingrea officiating. Interment will follow in Den Hill Cemetery, Shawsville.
