McGhee, Frances Salmons

Frances Salmons McGhee, 81, of Christiansburg, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2012, at Lewis Gale Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Jefferson McGhee. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and James Wilbourne; son and daughter-in-law, David and Kirsten McGhee, all of Roanoke; sister, Beatrice Clark, of Galax; and niece, Charlene Boyd, of Greenville, N.C. Frances “Ma” was a mother to many while her children were growing up, and spent most weekends on Claytor Lake driving the boat while her children and their friends learned to water ski. She was a wonderful companion and friend who loved her children, their spouses, and any puppy dog they chose to rescue. The family would like to thank the kind 3rd floor nursing staff at Lewis Gale Hospital who helped comfort both the patient and family during a very difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, 100 E. Main St. Christiansburg, VA 24073. A Graveside Service will be held at Sherwood Memorial Park, 1250 East Main Street, Salem, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012, with a Celebration of Life immediately following at David and Kirsten’s home, 918 Old Court Lane, Roanoke.
