McDaniel, Alton Lester

Alton Lester McDaniel, 93, of Blacksburg and formerly of Tuscaloosa, Ala., died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at the VA Hospital in Salem.

He was born in Alabama on February 4, 1915, to the late Samuel and Laura Kennedy McDaniel and also preceded in death by two brothers, Hoyt and Clifford McDaniel; and four sisters, Myrtle Wiggeton, Floyd Simpson, Leonia Graben and Lillian Wier.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice McDaniel, of Blacksburg; a daughter, Mary Ann McDaniel, of Blacksburg; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Ellie McDaniel, of Blacksburg; a sister, Polly Jesse, of Birmingham, Ala.; four grandchildren, Scott and Elizabeth Elgin, Becky Crigger and Dave McDaniel; and two great-grandchildren, Laura and Lilly Crigger.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2008, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Bill Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening, March 20, 2008, at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr., Blacksburg, Va.
