McCroskey, Luther Burton

Luther Burton “Jimmy” McCroskey, 81 of Narrows passed away Saturday, November 18th, 2017 at Springfield Center in Lindside, West Virginia. He was born in Pearisburg, Virginia on April 12, 1936 and was the son of the late William M. and Mary Wood McCroskey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn Clem McCroskey, a very special daughter-in-law Nancy Spadoni McCroskey, seven brothers, Morrell, Edward, Russell, Clinton, Kenneth, Eugene, and Douglas; two sisters, Ruby and Lorraine McCroskey.

He served Giles County and local communities as the Chief of Police in Rich Creek and retired as a Sergeant from the Giles County Sheriff’s Office. He was a member of the Rich Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a member of the choir. He was also honored as a lifetime member of the Jaycee’s, member of the Rich Creek Lion’s Club, and Pearisburg Masonic Lodge #106. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing.

Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Jimmy J. McCroskey and wife Anna of Rich Creek and Jeff McCroskey of Sarasota, Florida; three granddaughters, Jennifer and husband Stephen Gilmer of Narrows, Desiree and husband Greg Caldwell of Lewisburg, West Virginia, and Kaitlynn and husband Justin Farmer of Pearisburg; three great-grandchildren, Trey and Sadie Gilmer and Ellie Caldwell; three sisters, Dorothy Finger of Goose Creek, South Carolina, Martha and husband Bobby Smith of Rocky Mount, and Connie Wheeler of Narrows; and a brother, Donald and wife Vickie of Pembroke; a special sister-in-law Emily “Peaches” Clem of Narrows; several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous special friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 21st, 2017 at 12 noon at the First Baptist Church in Rich Creek with Pastor Jason Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows Monday from 6 to 8 PM, with a Masonic Memorial Service at 6:30 PM.
