mccroskey_clara_becknerClara Louise McCroskey, 83, of Pearisburg, departed this life Friday afternoon at her home in the loving care of her family. Born in Ripplemead on November 8, 1927, she was a daughter of the late James Lee and Minnie Buford Robertson Beckner. She was a member of Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead, was retired from the Celanese Plant at Narrows, and was one of the favorite Bingo Ladies of Giles County. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Morell Lee McCroskey, her sisters, Mary Avalee (Sis) McCroskey and Betty Jane Barnett and her brother, “Bud” Verlie M. Beckner. She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Morell Julian “Fuzzy” McCroskey; her sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas William and Freda McCroskey, of Max Meadows, Franklin and Claire McCroskey, of Pearisburg; her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and John Page, of Lindside, W.Va.; her brother, Jimmy Beckner and his wife, Terry, of Ripplemead; her 13 grandchildren; her numerous great-grandchildren; and her bingo buddies, Linda Graham, Shelia Johnson, and Cindy Raines. Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 12:30 p.m. at Birchlawn Burial Park with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. At Clara’s request, there will be no public viewing or visitation time. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Clara’s memory to Riverview Baptist Church Building Fund, 219 Big Stony Creek Road, Ripplemead, Va. 24150.
