mccoy almeta adellAlmeta Adell McCoy, 85, of McCoy, died at her home on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merton Terry and Inez Whitaker McCoy; two sisters, Shirley Ann Croy and Julia Pauline Morehead; three brothers, Lawrence Lenwood, Richard Boyd, and Ray Thomas (Tommy); and one nephew, Lloyd Terry Morehead. Almeta retired as a supervisor in the Materials Management Department at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant after working more than 37 years in various areas of the plant. During her lifetime she was a member of both the Centennial Christian Church and the Community Christian Church in McCoy, where she taught Sunday School classes and directed numerous Biblical dramas. She is survived by two nieces, Julia Graham, of Blacksburg and Melissa Wohlford, of Marietta, Ga.; two nephews, Lenwood McCoy and Dale McCoy, of McCoy; and sister-in-law, Dorothy S. McCoy, of Christiansburg. The family would like to express its appreciation to Almeta’s friends and neighbors for their many acts of kindness during her illness. They would also like to thank the staff of Carilion Hospice and her caregivers Alisha Caldwell, Carol Linkous, Carolyn Moran, and Evelyn Raines. Funeral services will be held at the Community Christian Church in McCoy at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013, with the minister, David Williams, officiating. Burial will follow in the Centennial Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013, at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
