Robert Lucas (Bob) McConnell, 84, of Radford, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Radford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was a retired Electronics Engineer from Radford Army Ammunition Plant with 40 years of service.

He was a veteran United States Navy having served in the Pacific during World War II. He was a grandson of John Preston McConnell, founder and first President of Radford University.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Delilah Graham McConnell, Radford; son, Jeffrey McConnell of Blacksburg; two grandchildren, Colton McConnell of Pennington Gap, Va., and Hayli Mae McConnell of Radford; sister, Nancy Dean of Herndon, Va.; two nieces, Kathy Dean and Susan Canada; nephew, John Dean; special cousins and spouses, Donna and Bob Maddox M.D. and Martha Ann and Joe Pedigo M.D.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barbara Croy of Radford, Juanita and Ed Horton of Hillsville, Flanders and Jay Ousey of Hopewell, Carolina and Fred Hammond of Kingsport, Tenn., Angela and Randy Shipley of Mooresburg, Tenn., Billy Graham, Nancy and Kawood Graham, and Vicki and Denson Graham all of Blacksburg.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Radford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and to Carilion Hospice of New River Valley for the loving care and comfort they gave to Bob during his final months. In lieu of flowers a gift to your favorite charity would be appreciated.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Sunrise Burial Park in Radford, with the Rev. Gina Rhea officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. The McConnell family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
